Sustainability at Sisu Auto
Sisu Auto designs and manufactures heavy vehicles for demanding authority and defence applications. Our operations are based on long service life, modular solutions and supply security. These principles also play a central role in our sustainability work: the most durable solutions emerge when vehicles remain operational, maintainable and upgradeable safely for decades.
Long Service Life and Supply Security
Our vehicles are designed for extended service life. Modular architecture, commercially available components and design solutions that support supply security enable long-term lifecycle support, spare parts availability and upgradability. This reduces the need to replace fleet with new equipment and lowers the total consumption of materials and resources over the lifecycle. Configuration management, up-to-date documentation and clear operating and maintenance instructions support usability and safe maintenance throughout the entire lifecycle.
Energy and Facility Efficiency
Energy consumption is a key cost and risk management issue for us. We have implemented initial energy efficiency measures, such as the introduction of LED lighting and electric forklifts, and we monitor our energy consumption on a regular basis. Sisu Auto will carry out a statutory energy audit during 2026. The audit will provide the foundation for prioritising energy efficiency measures, managing costs and reducing risks related to building technology.
Material Efficiency and Waste Management
The waste streams generated in our assembly-focused production are manageable in volume. Metal fractions are directed into material recycling, and electrical and electronic waste is handled through separate collection. We are currently developing the management of waste and packaging streams, including clarifying workstation-specific sorting and optimising packaging solutions. A particular area of development is reducing material waste — for example in relation to surplus components and packaging materials — in collaboration with suppliers and the aftersales network.
Chemical and Environmental Safety
The safe handling of chemicals and hazardous substances is a key part of operational reliability. Our practical measures focus on clarifying storage practices, improving labelling, reducing the risk of spills and maintaining the chemical register. These actions reduce environmental risks, improve occupational safety and ensure compliance with the customer and regulatory requirements of the defence sector.
Supply Chain and Traceability
Sisu Auto is responsible for the compliance of its products throughout their entire lifecycle. Our suppliers are assessed on a risk-based basis from the perspective of quality, delivery reliability and compatibility requirements. Basic requirements include compliance with REACH, RoHS and CLP legislation, as well as ensuring traceability. We are developing supplier requirements and documentation in a phased manner, so that we can also meet customers' future information needs relating to supply security and lifecycle support.
Development and Upcoming Actions
Our sustainability work progresses in a phased and practical manner. Key priorities for the coming years are:
